Crunchy Start to OWL

The 2020 season of the Overwatch League kicked off last weekend in New York and Dallas and it was a crunchy start to say the least, but in the end it was still great to see OWL back.

This graphic is the playtime each hero had in the first week. Lucio holds his place at the top that he had during the 2019 playoffs which is no big surprise. The speed boost and his beat are powerful abilities that can give teams high a huge edge competitively.

For many viewers Opening Weekend was their first watching of a live broadcast on YouTube Gaming, and on Saturday the feed failed to deliver a constant, quality experience. Multiple people, including myself, reported the stream constantly going blurry and being near unwatchable. By Sunday the issues mostly cleared up, but on both days the video feed on was far superior. VoDs on YouTube after the broadcasts were also much improved from their live counterparts.

Saturday’s production also had issues with their transition graphics, repeatedly overlaying the broadcast with Cheez-It branding covering up either the analyst desk or even gameplay at some points.

This Weekend in OWL

This weekend only the Philadelphia homestand is taking place. The Shanghai Dragons were set to host as well, but due to fears around the further spread of the coronavirus, a few upcoming homestand events in China have been canceled or postponed (the messaging from the Overwatch League has been confusing on this).

Teams playing are the Philadelphia Fusion, Florida Mayhem, Houston Outlaws, and Washington Justice. Check the OWL schedule for times in your region, but in the US it’s 3:00pm Central.

Valentine’s Day

Did you know that there are some unused Valentine’s Day voice lines in Overwatch? They mostly center around Gency (blech) YouTube link PHARMERCY FOR LIFE
