Overbuff Recall - March 9, 2018
Four OWL players disciplined
This story was added after initial publication of this week’s Recall.
The Overwatch League issued a statement outlining disciplinary actions against four of its players.
Taimou (Dallas Fuel) has been fined $1000 for use of anti-gay slurs used on stream.
TaiRong (Houston Outlaws) has been given a formal warning for posting an offensive meme on social media, and made a donation to the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation. TaiRong immediately deleted the tweet and apologized.
Silkthread (Los Angeles Valiant) has been fined $1000 for account sharing.
xQc (Dallas Fuel) has been fineid $4000 and suspended for 4 matches after racially disparaging comments made on stream and social media, and disparaging comments made against the casters and more comments against fellow players.
The statement further added: It is unacceptable for members of the Overwatch League to use or distribute hateful, racist, or discriminatory speech or memes. It is important for all members to be aware of the impact their speech may have on others.
Brigitte’s unlockables added to PTR
This week saw a few small adjustments to Brigitte, such as lowering how much air she could get with a well-timed shield bash, but also saw most of her unlockables added. Many of her skins reference her father, Torbjörn, from the basic colors, to her Iconclad and Engineer skins. Her two “knight” skins, Máni and Sól, are references to Norse mythology’s moon and sun personifications.
Many of her sprays hold references to both Torbjörn and Reinhardt, and also show her love of food and cats. You can see all of Brigitte’s skins, including OWL skins, emotes, highlight intros, voice lines, and sprays on our Twitter thread.
Former OWL moderator outed for sexual harassment
A popular moderator for both the OWL and dozens of Twitch streams, Uncleswagg, was outed for sharing nude images of a woman over the span of years. Cher Scarlett revealed the details via a post on medium, outlining the repeated offenses. Uncleswagg has since apologized for his actions and has spoken directly to Cher, and she said to the community: “I hope everyone can appreciate this admission of guilt and apology as authentic, because the conversation we’ve had has been hard.”
Days before the incidents came to light, Uncleswagg was quietly removed as moderator for the Overwatch League.
Casters for Contenders NA revealed
Andrew “ZP” Rush announced that he will be casting Contenders NA, which begins on Sunday. Joining him will be Jamerson, who we last saw in action at the Overwatch World Cup. Missing is Jason Kaplan, who said of the matter that he will not be casting Contenders in any region.
ZP’s absence from casting at Overwatch League had left many confused as his common partner in crime, Hexagrams, has been casting for OWL since its launch. The duo were known as some of the most prominent casters in the scene as they both started casting together for Overwatch during its beta.
You can watch Overwatch Contenders action on the Contenders Twitch page.
LFG forums for PC, Xbox, and Playstation have been added to the official forum community.
Jeff Kaplan suggested that in the future there may be a second Mystery Heroes mode along the lines of “Slightly Balanced Mystery Heroes.”
Responding to a fan sign at the Overwatch Arena, the Blizzard devs gave Mercy two guns.
Mercy will soon be getting her, “Heroes never die!” voice lines back, along with flavored versions for other skins.
In honor of Starcraft’s 20th anniversary, Widowmaker received a Sarah Kerrigan skin. Log in to Overwatch between March 6 and April 3 to claim it. All of Blizzard’s current properties have rewards, or will soon, so check here for the full list and dates.
Rumors that Geguri and the other new members of Dragons playing sooner than expected are untrue, and they are still not expected to play until Stage 3. They are, however, expected to be in the US before the end of March.
